Wordplay generates dictionary-based anagrams from a word or sentence. You can set the maximum and minimum length of words in the produced anagrams, limit the number of words and force the resulting anagram to contain a specified word.

As a side note, some friends (of questionable nature) toyed with wordplay until they discovered that my name anagrams to “A Porn Magician”. Therefore, care is advised when you recommend wordplay to someone. :)

Simply put, chbg is a program that runs as a daemon and sets your X11 wallpaper to a randomly chosen image from a set of images you specify.

Chbg can run in its own window (thus becoming a slideshow program), as a stand-alone screensaver or as an xscreensaver “hack”. Images can be displayed randomly or sequentially, with or without special effects.

All program operations are configurable through an easy to use GUI configuration screen.

Ploticus is a command-line application to generate plots, charts and graphs from data stored in ASCII files.

The real beauty of ploticus is its command-line nature, which makes it extremely easy to use ploticus from another program to generate graphics from fresh data.

Ploticus supports a bewildering variety of graphs, plots, and charts. To reduce the number of command-line options, it introduces the concept of a “prefab”, or ready to use configurations for popular types of charts and plots. Some common prefabs include chronological maps, cumulative fraction plots, pie charts, line plots, bar charts, stacked bar charts, and many others.

Ploticus can also be executed as a CGI application, directly from within an HTML IMG tag.

pcal generates good looking PostScript calendars for any month and year. pcal also supports “events”, which are described in a separate file and printed together with the calendars. The event description language is powerful enough to define most repetitive events, even those not tied to a particular day (such as Thanksgiving, for example, which happens every fourth Thursday in November).

As a bonus, pcal can also generate HTML calendars (based on tables).
